The economy is so bad that people are getting more resourceful and accommodating. As I left with friends yesterday after celebrating “Cinco de Mayo” at the Rancho Grande Rest in Orange, NJ, a well dressed young man asked me for a quarter (25 cents) so he could buy a “loosie/Lucy”…a single cigarette.

Times a-changing…in my memory vendors would have never opened a pack of cigarettes to sell them individually. There was always the question of “freshness.” How long would the pack keep fresh if you opened it. However, in this climate of high unemployment and few discretionary funds, consumers are demanding changes. And they have coined a word in their path  Loosie/Lucy?

I can see this as an entry in 2010’s dictionary….
