The Passion of Christ reenactment

April 2012 – Summit residents and members of St. Teresa de Avila Catholic Church in Summit reenacted the Passion of Christ just as many celebrate Holy Week in their native Latin America. Ayendi Rodriguez and his wife Evelin have supported the volunteer actors to recreate the scenes of Jesus praying in the garden,  being flogged and most impressive Jesus crucifixion.

The families and their children participate and take on the roles as roman soldiers, the disciples, Mary the Mother of Christ and many of the characters who surrounded Jesus during his life. The parishioners said they want to preserve their culture and share it with their children. Many said they hope their children will follow their footsteps and participate in the reenactment as they get older and are able to remember their lines.  For them Lent is a time to reconnect with their faith and ask for forgiveness and to remember Jesus Christ’s suffering on the cross.
