EL DIARIO homage

Sept. 6, 2013 –  El Diario la Prensa, the oldest Spanish-language newspaper in the USA, celebrates 100 years this coming October 12, 2013.   This has been the newspaper of record for Latinos in the Northeast of the United States and we can say that it was a paper ahead of its time because since the beginning this paper became more than a business, it became one with its community.  The offices of the paper were constantly filled with people who needed social services, perhaps they needed a lawyer or someone to talk to their City Council or their local Senator.  El Diario became the voice of the people.

Here’s the story as told by NYC Journalist Margarita Ramirez
