Today was the perfect day for it.

There was no rain, no cold. It was certainly a balmy evening for the children and the adults to dress up and go hunting for candy all over the neighborhoods.

I remember in High School dressing up and taking my pillow case- going from house to house -collecting candy bars, gum, chocolates, and all sorts of sweets.

But things are changing as communities are forced to control situations that have risen during Halloween nights, mainly situations dealing with violence and bad candy given to children.

Whether acting too precipitous or too cautious, this new notion of “Trunk- or- Treat” is becoming more and more popular.

Although tonight in Linden there were “duendes”, super heroes, princesses and little witches making their way to my front door and walking through our  neighborhood.

Six blocks away at the local elementary School No. One, a “Trunk-a-Treat” was held.

“Trunk-a-Treat” involves cars decorated with the Halloween theme from where their owners dispense candy from their trunks.

At School No. One, the cars  were parked next to each other in the school yard.

The trunks were open to reveal scary themes and some even had music playing.

The children and their parents walked from car to car saying “Trick or Treat” some said “Trunk-a-treat”.

Many of the parents we asked about this new way to trick or treat were happy about the new way to celebrate Halloween.

Lisa and her nephews were there.  She said she felt safer for the kids.

Meanwhile, at my house the trick-or-treaters kept rigging my door bell until it got dark.

No telling if the Trunk-a-Treat is more for the younger kids while the older ones continue the tradition of door-to-door trick-or-treating.

I enjoy seeing the kids at the door and I always make sure I have enough candy for them.

It’s a treat for me!
